After billionaire George Soros's remarks on Adani's troubles that would open door to a democratic revival in India, BJP came to the forefront on Friday slamming the investor. Union Minister Smriti Irani called upon every Indian to denounce his intention to demonise the democracy.

While addressing a press conference, Irani alleged that Soros's intention was to tarnish Indian democracy. “As a citizen I call upon every Indian and organisation, societal or political, to denounce the intention of this individual who seeks to demonise our democracy...who brings an onslaught to the economy of India for his personal gains,” said Smriti Irani.

She said that Indians have defeated such “foreign powers” who tried to meddle with our internal affairs earlier as well and will do so. “Those who Soros finds pliable need to know India has defeated imperialistic design before and shall do again. Democracy has prevailed in India and will continue to do so. Designs to weaken Indian democracy will be met with might of India under leadership of PM Modi,” Smriti Irani was quoted by ANI.

“When India rose to 5th largest economy in the world and when Presidents of US, France and PM of England publicly extended gratitude to Indian PM for enabling employment in these nations...such is time when imperialistic intentions of an entrepreneur come to light,” she said, reported ANI.

She also said that Soros was designated by nation as “an economic war criminal”. “The man who broke bank of England..has now pronounced his desire to break Indian democracy,” she said.

“George Soros an international entrepreneur has declared his ill-intention to intervene in democratic processes of India,” Irani added.

The pronouncements made by George Soros need to be understood. He makes such pronouncements to demolish Indian democracy so that his handpicked people run the govt in the country, she said.

During a speech at Munich Security Conference, Soros said that the Adani issue has shaken faith in India as an investment opportunity. "Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors and in parliament," said Soros.

"This will significantly weaken Modi's stronghold on India's federal government and open the door to push for much-needed institutional reforms. I may be naive, but I expect a democratic revival in India," Soros was quoted by Bloomberg.
