Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh, on Tuesday, said the two militants who were killed in Budgam had given the security forces a slip during an operation on Monday.

The security forces have been on the hunt for the duo since then. On Tuesday, during a security search, their vehicle was stopped at a check-post. The duo got out of the vehicle, opened fire at the security forces and tried to flee. In the retaliatory fire, the militants, belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed.

The slain militants were residents of Pulwama district.

Singh was talking to reporters on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament at TRC Srinagar.

“Both the militants were moving towards Srinagar district and the reasons behind this will be known after the investigation,’’ he said. “They left from their old hideout and were in search of the new one.”

About the Rajouri attack in which six civilians, including two minors, were killed in a militant attack on January 1, the DGP said police have got some vital clues during the investigation. “We have got some solid clues and the arrests will be made soon. I hope that the success will be achieved soon.”

“The area is close to the forest and after frequent militant sightings, four-five unsuccessful operations have been launched”.

He said adequate measures have been taken for the Republic Day celebrations and Bharata Jodo Yatra.
