The AAP ended the BJP's 15-year stint in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday, winning 134 wards in the 250-ward civic body.

An elated AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal thanked Delhiites for "choosing their son, brother" to run the civic body.

Addressing supporters at the party office in Delhi, Kejriwal said he would try to live up to people's expectations and urged all parties to come together to improve Delhi. "We have to improve the condition of Delhi (for which we) need the cooperation of the BJP, the Congress, and also blessings of the Centre and the prime minister," he said.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said his "hardcore honest" party defeated the "world's biggest and most negative party". "Heartfelt gratitude to the people of Delhi for trusting (the) Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi MCD. By defeating the world's biggest and most negative party, the people of Delhi have made a hardcore honest and working @ArvindKejriwalji win," Sisodia said in a tweet.

"For us, this is not just a victory, it is a big responsibility," he said.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha said the BJP, which put up a spirited fight to win 104 wards, got a befitting reply from the people of Delhi. "People have voted for the one who works for development. Today, Delhi has wiped out the 'keechar' that BJP tried to throw on Arvind Kejriwal. We will transform Delhi into the most beautiful city in the world," he said.

Former cricketer and AAP MP Harbhajan Singh called it a "big victory." "This was a big task to achieve. I extend congratulations to all including Kejriwal ji," he was quoted as saying.

Reacting to the results, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, "Kejriwal uprooted 15-year-long Congress rule in Delhi and now the 15-year-long (BJP)rule in MCD. It shows people of Delhi don't like politics of hatred, they vote for schools, hospitals, electricity, cleanliness and infrastructure."
