Teenager sustains severe burns as 'fire haircut' goes awry

In a case of craze for the adventurous going drastically awry, an 18-year-old suffered serious burn injuries at a salon in Vapi, Gujarat on Wednesday. After the incident, he was rushed to the nearby hospital.  

The police on Thursday said that the teen had burn injuries on his neck and chest. 

The fire haircut, which has gained popularity recently, is a technique by the hair stylist where they use fire to style the hair. 

Initial reports reveal that the victim's upper body parts suffered severe burns after some kind of chemical was applied on his head for the haircut. 

A video clip of the incident had gone viral in social media on Wednesday, in which the fire set on the victims' hair as part of the process was seen going out of control. 

The police said that the incident had occurred at a salon in Vapi town of Gujarat's Valsad district. 

A Vapi town police station official said that the victim received burn injuries on his neck and chest and was taken to a hospital in Vapi from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital in Valsad. 

The victim, a resident of Bhadakmora area in Vapi, had gone to get the "fire haircut" at the salon in the Sulpad area, police said.

According to Karamsinh Makwana, the investigating officer, statements of the victim and hairdresser at the salon will be taken. 

"We are trying to get the statement of the victim. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Valsad. We have learnt that from there he was taken to a hospital in Surat," Makwana said.

An investigation was on to ascertain which chemical was used for the 'fire haircut', said the police.
