Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the centre would make the road infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh better than that of the US by 2024. He was in the state on Saturday to announce projects worth Rs 7,000 crore.

While inaugurating the 81st session of the Indian Road Congress (IRC), Gadkari said: "The roads of Uttar Pradesh have to be made better than America before 2024. For this, the Modi government is going to approve five lakh crore rupees for UP in the coming days." He added that there is no shortage of money for the construction of good roads with the government.

Gadkari said a gift of Rs 7,000 crore is being given to Uttar Pradesh. "In this Shahabad-Hardorh bypass, Shahjahanpur to Shahabad bypass, Moradabad-Thakurdwara- Kashipur bypass, Ghazipur-Ballia bypass, besides 13 ROBs, a total of ₹ 8,000 crore have been approved," he said.

"For achieving the target of USD 5 trillion economy, as directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the road network is most important," Gadkari said. The need of the hour is to use "waste" for road construction without harming the environment in Uttar Pradesh, the minister added.

The Union Minister also highlighted the need to pay attention to the environment, while appealing to people to use CNG, ethanol, methanol and electric vehicles instead of diesel and petrol vehicles. This will also make fares cheaper, he added.

"Today we are making one lakh litres of bioethanol from stubble and are also working on manufacturing bio-CNG from it," Gadkari said.

Terming green hydrogen as the need of the future, Gadkari said if work on this technology is done in 117 aspirational districts of the country, then it will help them become financially strong and generate employment, the release added.
