Amid the political drama in Rajasthan, Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge will submit the report to Sonia Gandhi around noon.
The duo met party interim president Sonia Gandhi yesterday, following which she sought a detailed report about the current crisis in Rajasthan where MLAs loyal to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot are revolting against the party.
"Kharge ji and I have apprised the Congress president of the CLP meeting in Rajasthan. The Congress president has sought a written report on the entire chronology, which we will submit by late night or tomorrow," Maken said Monday.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the high command is miffed with Gehlot's open rebellion, and the top leadership is reconsidering fielding him. The rebellion by the 90 MLAs loyal to Gehlot over the possible move to appoint Sachin Pilot as his successor has upset the leadership, but there were no immediate plans for a change of guard now, reported The Indian Express.
Gehlot's move has reportedly angered top leaders that many have made up their minds not to vote for him even if he contests the polls.
While there are reports that the party may issue show cause notices to the rebelling MLAs, sources said the decision will be taken only after Sonia studies the report given by Kharge and Maken. According to the ANI news, a status quo will be maintained until the process for filing nominations for the Congress Party Presidential polls ends on September 30.
Meanwhile, another candidate for the post, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, has claimed the support of party workers from across the country. "You will see the support I enjoy when I submit my nomination paper. I will be in the fray if I get support from party workers from the majority of the states. So many people from different parts of the country have requested me to be in the fray," Tharoor told reporters.
