Trinamool Congress leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee today slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling him the “receiver” of kickbacks from coal and cattle scams".

"I request to media not to call it coal or cattle smuggling and instead call it a home ministry scam," Abhishek said after the seven-hour interrogation in the alleged coal pilferage scam, by the Enforcement Directorate, which, incidentally, comes under the finance ministry.

He said that Shah could not teach his son nationalism, as he refused to pick up the national flag after India beat Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup, but is out to destroy him and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

"I dare him to touch me if I am guilty. He cannot take action against people like Suvendu Adhikary and Nisith Adhikary, who are now BJP leaders, but harasses me and my family," he said.

Abhishek said Shah is out to bulldoze the Trinamool Congress government.

"He has lost miserably in 2021 assembly election. He could not digest the defeat and is out to to pull our government down. Shah will be handed a miserable defeat in 2024 election in Punjab," he said.

Abhishek also accused Adhikary of having links with coal smuggling accused. He also demanded that the ED should interrogate the incumbent home minister, former home minister Rajnath Singh and all other officials in connection with the home ministry.

"Both coal mines and border are managed by the Union home minister. So, all should be booked, not us," he said.

Abhishek also dared Shah or Adhikary to file defamation suits if they consider themselves innocent.

Abhishek got a reprieve when the Supreme Court agreed to hear on September 5 his plea seeking approval to go to Dubai for a medical procedure.

The 34-year-old MP, a nephew of Mamata Banerjee, represents the Diamond Harbour seat in the Lok Sabha and is the TMC national general secretary.
