Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has tendered an apology after a video of his daughter assaulting a doctor in Aizawl went viral on social media. In an Instagram post, Zoramthanga said he had visited the dermatologist and offered the apology.
“We have nothing to justify or say in defence of our daughter’s behaviour towards the doctor. We ask forgiveness from the doctor and the public,” the CM said.
The incident allegedly took place earlier this week when Zoramthanga's daughter Milari Chhangte assaulted the doctor at a clinic in Aizawl. According to reports, Chhangte was upset after the doctor asked her to take an appointment prior to her visit to the clinic for consultation.
A video that went viral on social platforms shows Chhangte walking up to the doctor and hitting him on the face as others try to hold her back.
The incident sparked off an outrage and protests among the medical fraternity with members of the Indian Medical Association's Mizoram chapter wearing black badges to their work places.
“We want that such acts of violence against medical practitioners should never be repeated,” the association said.
