Karnataka Police, on Thursday, arrested state convener of Hindu Jagaran Vedike for alleged hate speech against Quran and Muslims.

According to media reports, during a protest on July 1 against the killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, the accused, Keshav Murthy, had said, "Quran says kill people. So, don't you think those who read it will follow the same. Those who read the Quran are terrorists."

Murthy, along with a few of his associates, were arrested following a complaint filed by the president of the forum Anjuman-e-Islamia, Zameer Ahamad.

He was arrested from Kolar district in the state.

Murthy has been charged under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 153B (provocation with intent to cause a riot) and 295A (outraging religious feelings), reports NDTV.

Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, was killed by two cleaver-wielding men, who posted a grisly video of the crime online claiming responsibility for the murder. He was murdered over social media posts in support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma.
