In the wake of the revolt led by Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray wanted to resign, but was urged to stay on by a senior alliance leader.
According to an NDTV report, he was stopped from stepping down from the post, "not once, but twice".
"...he was persuaded not to quit by the biggest leader of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance," NDTV quoted the source as saying.
The chief minister was planning to resign on June 21, but was requested to stay on. News agency ANI reported that the next day, on June 22, he was all set to resign after it became clear that there was no end to the political crisis caused by the rebellion.
It was one June 22 (Wednesday) that the chief minister vacated his office residence 'Varsha' and shifted to Matoshri, the private bungalow of the Thackeray family in Bandra.
On the same day, he had said he was ready to quit his post if the rebel MLAs tell him that they don't want him to continue as CM. He had also said he was ready to give up the post of Shiv Sena president as well if Shiv Sainiks feel that he isn't capable of heading the party.
An ANI report suggested that Thackeray was in touch with the BJP leadership to find a solution to the crisis.Â
