PDP leader Waheed Para was granted bail by Jammu and Kashmir high court on Wednesday after two years.

Parra is the president of the youth wing of the PDP. He was arrested by the NIA in a case of terrorism in 2020.

Reacting to his release, PDP president Mehbooba Muft tweeted: “Finally, after two years Waheed Para gets bail. I hope he walks out as a free man soon. Would like to thank his lawyer.”

Para, resident of Pulwama, won the DDC elections in 2020 in absentia. He has been instrumental in mobilising support for PDP in south Kashmir.

The NIA had charged for colluding with militants and acting as a conduit for them. He was arrested after his name emerged during a probe involving suspended cop Davinder Singh, who was also arrested after being caught travelling on the national highway with two Hizbul Mujahideen commanders in 2020.
