The Congress has taken a major step in planning future campaigns following its brainstorming session in Udaipur earlier this month.

The Congress on Tuesday announced the formation of two major committees: A political affairs group and a task force for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The party has also announced a planning body to coordinate its upcoming Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The Congress party's Sandesh handle, which publicises party announcements, tweeted party chief Sonia Gandhi “has constituted a Political Affairs Group that will be presided over by her, a Task-Force-2024 and a Central Planning Group for the coordination of the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'... with immediate effect.”

Notable members of the eight-member political affairs group include Rahul Gandhi, Digvijaya Singh and Ambika Soni. Interestingly, Anand Sharma and Ghulam Nabi Azad—members of the G-23 group of leaders, which has been lobbying for reform in the party—have been included in the political affairs group.

The task force for 2024 also has eight members including P. Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu, who had worked with multiple parties, is also in the task force. The party announced each task force member would be assigned specific tasks “related to organisation, communications and media, outreach, finance and election management”. The party said the task force would follow up on the declaration of the Udaipur conclave.

The planning group for the Bharat Jodo Yatra has nine members including Digvijaya Singh, Sachin Pilot and Shashi Tharoor.
