'Some Congress leaders are making fun of 'Shivling' to come across as liberal': Pramod Krishnam

Says 'Shivling' cannot be termed as 'tamasha'

Pramod-Krishnam Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam

Wading into the 'Shivling in Gyanvapi mosque' controversy, Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam, on Monday, alleged that some leaders of his party are making fun of 'Shivling' to project themselves as more liberal.

"Be it SP leader Akhilesh Yadav or Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, 'Shivling' cannot be termed as 'tamasha'; this is a matter of faith," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

A few days ago, Yadav had alleged that BJP and its associates are raising the Gyanvapi mosque issue as they want to divert people's attention from real issues, while Gehlot claimed that the saffron party was creating a new "drama."

"BJP has no faith in democracy. Its leaders are doing politics, wearing the mask of democracy. The policies, programmes, and principles of these (BJP) people are going to ruin the country. Now, they will create a new drama in Varanasi. It has started...on news channels, and on social media too. There will be some 100 such places where they keep creating controversy, so how long will you keep Hindu-Muslim fighting in the country," Gehlot had said.

Krishnam pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had stated that he is a 'Shiv Bhakt'."Sanatan dharma teaches respect for all religions, but does not give permission to insult our own religion."

He said the Congress works on ideology of 'Sarvdharm Sambhav' and follows Mahatma Gandhi.

Krishnam claimed that the BJP searches for votes in temples while the Congress search for god in 'Shivling'. For me, whole nation is a temple, he said, adding that the Congress will follow the court's judgement on the issue.
