BJP govt's corruption behind power, coal crisis in MP: Kamal Nath

Govt took no steps to tackle situation, says the Cong leader

Kamal-Nath-PTI Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and state Congress president Kamal Nath has hit out at the BJP-led government for the power and coal crisis, saying that it is an outcome of corruption during the past two years.

“No coal deal was possible without paying (commission) money. This is a matter of concern,” Nath said while talking to media on Saturday.

The ex-CM added that the entire state was facing a critical situation regarding power and coal and all sections including farmers, traders and students were impacted badly.

“The BJP government seems to consider the crisis as a joke. It always kept denying the shortage. This situation hasn’t cropped up suddenly. It was evident for the past two-three months. It is not like a flood or earthquake to have hit without warning. But the BJP government did not do prior planning to tackle the situation. Just like Covid-19 crisis, they simply did not make any plan,” Nath said.

Speaking on the loudspeaker issue raging on in the country, the MPCC chief said that there is no need to make it a public issue. People’s sentiments are attached to the use of loudspeakers (at religious places). “But if loudspeakers are used to instigate, then of course action should be taken against it. Loudspeakers are used in many places. Even a small public meeting needs a loudspeaker. But there should be no misuse of loudspeakers,” Nath said.

‘Offered to quit as LoP two months ago’

Responding to the BJP's jibe on his giving up the post of leader of opposition (LoP) in the state, Nath said that the BJP should stop worrying about Congress organization and take care of its own. “I had made a request to the central leadership regarding giving up the post of LoP two months ago. I myself proposed the name of Govind Singh ji (as new LoP),” Nath said.

He added that he had dual responsibility and his prime focus now is preparations for Assembly polls. “This was the reason I wanted to give up the post. I wanted the responsibility to go to someone else so that I could fully concentrate on the polls.”

He also said that the Congress was fully ready for Mission 2023 and the party was strengthened by the contribution of each leader.
