The killings of a Popular Front of India (PFI) activist and an RSS office-bearer in the interval of just a few hours have shocked Kerala's Palakkad with the district administration imposing prohibitory orders till April 20. Gathering of five or more people, public meetings and processions have been banned.

On Saturday, RSS leader S.K. Srinivasan, 45, was hacked to death by a six-member bike-borne gang at Melamuri. The CCTV visuals from the nearby shops showed that the assailants riding three motorbikes reaching the shop and three of them attacking Srinivasan.

The incident followed the killing of PFI activist Subair, 43, at Elappully on Friday afternoon. Subair was returning home along with his father after offering prayers in a mosque when he was attacked. Four RSS activists have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

As tension prevails in the district following the back-to-back political murders, police have enhanced security with three companies of Kerala Armed Police-1 (KAP-1) being deployed. Around 270 members of the armed police battalion will camp in Palakkad as part of security measures.

ADGP (Law and Order) Vijay Sakhare will also camp in Palakkad town to coordinate with the investigation.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress came down heavily on the Left government alleging that the increasing number of communal and political murders happening in the state nowadays was a result of communal appeasement being done by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The police force have become mute spectators of violence and murders and people are living under fear as there is no protection for their life and property, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly V.D. Satheesan said.
