Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, on Tuesday, reiterated his demand that loudspeakers at mosques be shut down and issued another warning that Hanuman Chalisa will be played through speakers if azaan continues from mosques.

He claimed that he is raising a a social issue, and not a religious one.

"Loudspeakers in mosques should be shut till May 3, otherwise, we will play Hanuman Chalisa in speakers. This is a social issue, not a religious one. I want to tell the state government, we will not go back on this subject, do whatever you want to do," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

On April 2, Raj Thackeray had demanded that loudspeakers at mosques be shut down and said if this is not stopped, "there will be speakers outside mosques playing 'Hanuman Chalisa' at higher volume".

On Sunday, Mumbai Police had detained four MNS workers for playing 'Hanuman Chalisa' on a loudspeaker in front of the Shiv Sena headquarters in Dadar area.
