With assembly elections due in Gujarat later this year, the controversy over the standard of education in government-run schools refuses to die down, with Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia all set to visit the state on April 11.
Ruffled by the Aam Aadmi Party leader’s comments on education in Gujarat, state Education Minister Jitubhai Vaghani had said that those who do not like the quality of education in Gujarat can go to another state.
Addressing a press conference, Sisodia said that by asking people to leave Gujarat if they do not like the education that is being imparted, the BJP has admitted that it is not able to provide good education.
Sisodia said that he would visit Gujarat to see what type of schools the BJP has made by remaining in power for 27 years.
Yogesh Jadvani, chief spokesperson and AAP media in-charge of the Gujarat state committee, told THE WEEK that the party had offered to show any school of New Delhi in any assembly constituency. He said that likewise, the AAP would expect the ruling BJP or the education minister to send representatives to show us some good schools. If the schools are good, AAP would like to replicate the model in New Delhi, Jadvani said.
Sources said that during the two-day visit, Sisodia is expected to visit schools in Bhavnagar. Vaghani hails from Bhavnagar.
The BJP is being cornered both by the Congress and the BJP over the quality of education in Gujarat.
