Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Sunday, in his first visit to the national capital after the BJP notched up a spectacular victory in the state.

Yogi is also likely to meet BJP president J.P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh thereafter.

Set to take oath as the chief minister for a second term, Adityanath's talks with the top party leadership, including Shah and Nadda, are likely to centre around a host of issues related to the government formation besides being a formal exercise.

Earlier, the chief minister met Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and BJP general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh in the national capital.

The BJP stormed back to power in the politically crucial state on Thursday, trouncing its main rival Samajwadi Party, with Adityanath asserting that people have buried the politics of caste and religion.

The BJP won 255 seats in the 403-member assembly. Its two allies secured another 18 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Adityanath's feat and suggested that the victory in Uttar Pradesh will pave the wave for the BJP's win in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
