Women lead two-thirds of the district administrations in Kerala

10 out of 14 districts in Kerala will be governed by women

By early March, 10 out of 14 districts in Kerala will be governed by women. With Dr Renu Raj taking over the helm of Alappuzha district on March 2, the Kerala state is achieving this rare feat. 

Renu Raj, currently working as Director, Directorate of Urban Development, Government of Kerala, succeeds A Alexander, the incumbent Alappuzha District Collector who retires this month. This is her maiden post as district collector. 

35-year-old Renu Raj, who graduated from Kottayam Medical College in the adjoining district, is well acquainted with Alappuzha district. 

The other 10 women district collectors in the state are:

Bhandari Swagat Ranveerchand (Kasaragod), Dr A Geetha (Wayanad), Mrunmai Joshi (Palakkad) 4. Haritha V Kumar (Thrissur), Dr P K Jayasree (Kottayam), Sheeba George (Idukki), Dr Divya S Iyer (Pathanamthitta), Afsana Parveen (Kollam), Dr Navjot Khosa (Thiruvananthapuram). 

Among these Dr Divya S Iyer, Dr Renu Raj and Dr Navjot Khosa joined civil service from medical profession. 

Mrunmayee Joshi and Dr Navjot Khosa recently won the best district collector award from the Revene Department. 

Dr P K Jayasree, Sheeba George, Dr A Geetha, Dr Renu Raj, Dr Divya S Iyer AND Haritha V. Kumar are natives of Kerala.
