The Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies have finalised the seat sharing formula for the Punjab Assembly polls scheduled on February 20. The saffron party will contest on 65 seats while former chief minister Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress will field candidates in 37 seats.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Samyukt), the third alliance partner, has been allocated 15 seats.

Announcing the seat-sharing agreement at a press conference , BJP president J.P. Nadda said the motto of the National Democratic Alliance is to bring back Punjab on track.

“Security is a very imp issue. This election is for stability and safety,” Nadda said. He also said Punjab needs a double engine government and a better coordination between the Centre and the state.

Amarinder, who quit the Congress after a prolonged power tussle with party’s state unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu, had on Sunday announced the first list of 22 canddiates. The former CM will contest from Patiala Urban constituency.
