The Jammu and Kashmir administration, on Monday, approved 15 per cent reservation for women in non-gazetted posts of J&K Police.

"On NationalGirlChildDay, approved 15% reservation for women in non-gazetted posts of @JmuKmrPolice. This is just the beginning. We are determined and committed to increase it further in the future," the J&K LG's office said in a tweet.

The J&K Police is the highest employment generating department in the Union territory. The size of the police force has increased exponentially since the start of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, and it emerged to be one of the best police forces in the country. It is considered to be the eyes and ears of the security forces because of its excellent intelligence  network and use of technology.

The reservation in the non-gazetted vacancies is likely to attract more women to the police. The officer cadre of J&K Police comprises mostly IPS and KPS qualified men and women.

J&K has several women police stations which are fully managed by women. Women police officers are also deployed  for carrying security related works wherever needed, including in some  government departments.
