NCP chief Sharad Pawar, on Tuesday, announced that his party will contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in alliance with the Samajwadi Party and other smaller parties.

"The people of Uttar Pradesh are looking for change. We will surely see the change in the state," the NCP chief said in Mumbai. "Communal polarisation is being done in Uttar Pradesh ahead of assembly elections. The people of UP will give a befitting reply to this."

He said his party will contest assembly polls in Manipur and Goa as well.

According to NDTV, Pawar said the NCP and the Congress discussed forming an alliance in Goa, but no decision has been made yet. "Trinamool, NCP and Congress are holding discussions. We have given our choice of seats to them. A decision will be made soon...Goa needs a change and the BJP government needs to be changed," he was quoted as saying.

The Congress, however, refuted the claim that the party is in talks with the TMC for forming an alliance in Goa.
