A group of BJP youth wing activists, protesting against the murder of a school teacher in Odisha, hurled eggs at the convoy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Puri on Wednesday.

The chief minister was returning to Bhubaneswar after attending the foundation stone laying ceremony for Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor Project when the egg attack took place at the government hospital square, reported IANS.

The BJP and the Congress have been demanding the removal of state home minister Dibya Shankar Mishra from the cabinet, accusing him of having links with the prime accused in the murder case.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state president Irasish Acharya has admitted to his supporters’ role in the egg attack and said the protest will continue until the chief minister take action against his colleague.

The Youth Congress workers had also staged a protest in Puri during the chief minister’s visit.

Mamita Meher, a 26-year-old teacher, went missing on October 8 and her partially charred body was found in an under construction stadium of a private school in Kalahandi on October 19.

The teacher had earlier accused Govind Sahu, president of the school managing committee, of running a sex racket and threatened to expose his wrong doings. Sahu has been arrested in connection with the murder.

The BJP and the Congress have alleged that home minister Mishra had tried to broker a deal between the victim and Sahu at his residence in Raipur.
