Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh said on Saturday that Aryan Khan, arrested in connection with a drug case, is being victimised because he is the son of actor Shah Rukh Khan.

“It is sad Shah Rukh's son is being victimised for being his son. What is his crime? Someone accompanying him had five grams of drugs with him!! What about Tonnes of Heroin seized at Mundra Port? Who is Kuldeep Singh? Would NCB and now NIA be investigating this case, please tell us?,” Singh asked in a tweet.

Nearly 3,000 kg of heroin was seized from two containers at the Mundra Port in Gujarat by the DRI last month. The drug haul is considered to be one of the biggest in the world with the value of the seized heroin estimated to be Rs 21,000 crore in the international markets.

The BJP hit back at Singh and accused him of doing ‘appeasement politics’.

“Finally, Digvijay Singh came to the rescue of Aryan Khan. The matter is right now sub-judice, the investigating agency is checking the facts but he (Singh) has given his verdict! After all, for how long will you continue to mislead people by doing politics of appeasement?,” the party asked.

Aryan was arrested along with his friend Arbaaz Merchant and fashion model Munmun Dhamecha by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 3 following a raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. He has moved the Bombay High Court after a special court rejected his bail application on Wednesday.

Earlier, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik had questioned the NCB’s action.

Pawar had alleged that the aim of the NCB's recent actions was to defame Bollywood and take the film industry out of Mumbai and Maharashtra. Malik has been targeting NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede, who led the 'drug bust' on the cruise ship, alleging that two persons were let off during the raid and one of them was the relative of a BJP leader.

He, however, refused to reveal the name of the BJP leader.

Meanwhile, Aryan in his bail application at the high court argued that the NCB was "misinterpreting" his WhatsApp chats to implicate him in the case. The 23-year-old claimed no contraband was recovered from him after the NCB raided the ship and maintained he has no connection with any of the other accused in the case except Arbaaz Merchant and Aachit Kumar.

The HC will hear his bail plea on October 26.
