An explosion at a firecracker storage facility in New Tharagupet in Bengaluru, on Thursday, left three dead and two others injured.

DCP (South), Bengaluru, Harish Pandey, said, "The blast took place in a transport warehouse next to a puncture shop. Three people were killed including two in the puncture shop while four were injured."

He said the major impact was caused by the firecrackers stored there. "Some 80 odd boxes were stored here, we have to check how many exploded," he was quoted as saying.

According to the top cop, an "unstable chemical" believed to be part of an industrial consignment may have caused the blast.

He said the police is looking into the origin of the blast. "It was neither a cylinder blast nor a cracker blast or a blast caused by a short circuit. There were no pieces of compressors also," he was quoted as saying.

The deceased gave been identified.
