Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran has been the target of online trolls ever since she became the youngest person to occupy the post of the mayor. While so far it was the random trolls and faceless strangers on the internet that had been spewing venom, calling her an "LKG child", she decided to take the take the bull by the horns when a BJP councillor, Karamana Ajith, called her "an LKG child from AKG Centre" and "mayor baby" in a Facebook post.

A BSc Maths student from the All Saints College, Arya Rajendran was 21 years old when she was elected as the ward councillor from Mudavanmugal.

In a post about alleged 'missing Hitachis' (excavators), Ajith had written, "The things worth lakhs bought by the taxpayers' money are not playthings to be destroyed by LKG kids from AKG centre." The AKG centre refers to the CPI(M) headquarters in the state. Further, calling her "mayor baby", he said the municipality is not a children's park.

"In one of your recent posts, you insulted me calling me an LKG baby from AKG centre. Let me tell you something. Ever since I became a mayor, you have been making several allegations. There have been several instances when you have been criticising me over my age and maturity. If I show you some of the comments that your followers make on social media, you might remember your mothers or sisters at your homes and feel that the mayor is also one such woman," she said, while speaking in the council meeting on June 17.

When the members tried to repeatedly disrupt her speech and silence her, she asked them to remain silent and let her speak. She said comments insulting women cannot be tolerated irrespective of the party affiliations of the trolls.

She reminded the BJP leader that he has been repeatedly insulting her over her age, but she chose to ignore the comments. But it can't be tolerated anymore, she said, adding, "If I have become a mayor at this age, I know how to work and behave accordingly. I have come from such an institution which has empowered me to do this."
