A week-long complete lockdown will be imposed in Haryana from Monday, to curb the second wave of COVID-19. Haryana health minister Anil Vij took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Haryana, on Saturday, registered 125 fatalities, taking the death toll in the state to 4,341, while 13,588 fresh infections pushed the tally to 5,01,566. Earlier, a weekend curfew was imposed in some districts of the state.

In April, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khatter had ruled out total lockdown and said that the COVID-19 situation was under control in the state.

However, as COVID-19 cases increased, on Saturday, the state government said that employees with severe disabilities, vulnerable persons, and pregnant women shall not be called for duty, even if they are engaged in essential services.

Earlier this week, Khattar said that there is no need to panic as there is no shortage of oxygen, ICU beds and ventilators in the state. He had also warned of strict action against people involved in blackmarketing of oxygen and remdesivir.
