A few weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi bid tearful farewell to outgoing Rajya Sabha MP and leader of the opposition in the upper house, Ghulam Nabi Azad, saying, "Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has set very high standards as MP and opposition leader. His work will inspire generations of MPs to come," the latter heaped praises on the prime minister at an event in Jammu.

Calling Modi a grounded person who does not forget his roots, Azad, during an event of Gujjar community, reportedly said people must learn from PM Modi. Azad said although he has political differences with Modi, the prime minister is a grounded person.

"I like lot of things about many leaders. I am from village and feel proud about it... Even our prime minister hails from village and used to sell tea. We are political rivals but I appreciate that he doesn't hide his true self. Those who do, are living in bubble," Timesnownews quoted him as saying.

Earlier, reminiscing about his long association with Azad, Modi had said as chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat, both of them kept in touch with each other. Sharing details of their communication during a terror attack on some Gujarati pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir, Modi said Azad was the first one to call him about the incident.

With tears rolling down his cheeks, Modi said Azad cried on the call while informing him about the horrific attack. "Azad was the first person to call me. During that call he could not stop crying," the prime minister said in a choked voice as tears rolled down from his eyes.
