J&K: Two CRPF men killed, three injured in militant attack in Pampore

The area has been cordoned off and searches have been launched

Two CRPF men were killed and three injured in a militant attack at Kandizal, Pampore on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday.

The CRPF men who came under were part of the ROP (road opening party). The ROP is tasked with sanitising routes that security convoys take. 

“Two of our men were martyred and three others have been injured in the attack on ROP at Kandizal, Pampore,’’ CRPF spokesman Juniad Khan told THE WEEK. “The injured have been taken to hospital,” he said.

Khan said the area has been cordoned off and searches have been launched.

Traffic has also been stopped on the route. The Army’s 50 RR and police have joined the operation to trace the militants who carried out the attack.  

The militants have of late increasingly targeted the ROPs and ‘naka party’s of the CRPF  and police .

On August 16, two CRPF men were killed when a militant attacked a ‘naka party’ at Kreeri Pattan in Baramulla. Later, the security forces traced the militants in a nearby area and engaged them in an encounter in which two militants were killed.

On August 14, two policemen were killed at Nowgam in an attack on a ‘naka party’ by militants.

On July 1, militants attacked a joint Naka party of police and CRPF at Arampora , Sopore in Baramulla in which one CRPF man and a civilian was killed.

The killing of the civilian evoked widespread condemnation after his family alleged he was shot dead by CRPG after dragging him out of his car.
