The manager of a school in Meerut has been arrested for allegedly installing a CCTV camera in the female teachers’ toilet.

Station House Officer of Sadar police station, Vijay Kumar Gupta, said, “Our investigation in the matter is on. We have arrested one person based on the initial findings”.

The complaint was made on September 22 by teachers at the Rishabh Academy on the West End Road in the Cantonment area of the city.

The complaint alleges that the management had installed a camera in the toilet and used the pictures thus obtained to blackmail the teachers into working without payment of salaries. It also accuses the management of pressuring the teachers into granting sexual favours.

The main accused is Abhinav Jain, the son of the secretary of the school’s management committee. He has been arrested.

Rishabh Academy is a co-educational CBSE affiliated school founded in 1992.

When this reporter contacted the school office the response was that the charges were baseless and the teachers in question had been reprimanded for poor performance. “It is true that we have been unable to pay full salaries to teachers because of the lockdown but there has been no secret recording of them,” said the person who refused to identify himself.

The school website describes it as an academy which “keeps the innovative drives at fore and adrift the practices of renowned for exceptionally and exemplary results. It is labelled the approach and distinct swipe to transform a raw material into the matured human being, true professional, ultimately the patriotic entity (sic)”.

According to the complaint, the management had threatened to make the teachers' photos and videos viral if they did not continue to work as per their demands. There are also allegations that the management practiced black magic on the teachers. The complaint has been filed against Abhinav and his father Ranjit Jain.
