Suspected militants shot dead BJP’s district president for Bandipora, Waseem Bari, his father and brother on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, Bari was attacked outside his residence at Muslimabad in Bandipora in north Kashmir. His father, Bashir Ahmed, and brother, Umar Bari, were also injured in the attack. All three were declared brought dead at the hospital.

The attack took place close to a police station near Bari’s residence.

On June 10, militants shot dead Ajay Pandita alias Bharti, a 40-year-old Kashmiri Pandit sarpanch, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag. Pandita was representing Lukbawan village in Larkipora. He was affiliated with the Congress.

The killing was widely condemned by political leaders across the country.

JKPCC chief G.A. Mir had said that Bharti was not having any security cover and demanded a judicial inquiry into his killing.

BJP’s Kashmir spokesman Atlaf Thakur condemned the attack and said the party will not be cowed down by such acts.

“He( Bari) was a very humble and helpful man,” Thakur said. “He was always available to help people in whatever way possible.”

He said he was shocked by the killings.

“Violence will not help achieve anything,” he said. “Even Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah also realised it, and resigned from Hurriyat.”

He said the militants martyred the Congress sarpanch Pandita in similar fashion and today, “our partymen have also been targeted”.
