The proposed 'Bhumi Pujan' (worship of temple land) ceremony, scheduled to be held in Ayodhya on July 2, has been postponed in view of the escalation of border tension between India and China.

The fresh date would be announced after keeping all aspects in mind, said Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust secretary Champat Rai in a statement.

“The security of the nation is supreme and the proposed 'Bhumi Pujan' is being put off in view of the prevailing situation,” the statement said.

There were reports that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may lay the foundation stone of the proposed Ram temple by performing the rituals of 'Bhoomi Pujan' in Ayodhya on July 1

Adityanath on Thursday cancelled his scheduled visit to Ayodhya. He was to visit the temple town to oversee the arrangements for the 'Bhumi Pujan' programme.

Meanwhile, the temple trust has launched its website (www.srjbtkshetra.org) which will give updates and news related to the temple construction.

Last November, the Supreme Court settled the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute, ruling in favour of construction of a temple at the site by a government-appointed trust.

It also ordered that an alternative five-acre plot must be found within Ayodhya for a mosque to replace the Babri Masjid, demolished in 1992 by kar sevaks claiming that a Ram temple originally stood at the same spot.

In March, the Ram Lalla deity was ceremoniously moved from the makeshift temple at the site to a new spot, clearing the way for the construction of the temple.

On May 11, earth-moving machinery was deployed for levelling the site.
