Engineering entrance examination JEE Main will be held from July 18 to July 23, while medical entrance exam NEET will be conducted on July 26, Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced on Tuesday.

The two crucial exams were postponed due to the lockdown imposed in the country to combat COVID-19.

"JEE-Main will be held from July 18-23, while JEE-Advanced will be held in August. NEET will be conducted on July 26," Pokhriyal said during an online interaction. The syllabus for JEE Main and NEET had been curtailed. Pokhriyal urged students to study themselves and use digital modes such as SWAYAM and Diksha to prepare for the entrance examinations. According to the government, about 16 lakh candidates were registered to appear for NEET and 9 lakh for JEE Main.

A decision will soon be taken on the pending CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams, Nishank added. Responding to a query from a student, Pokhriyal said, “The dates of CBSE class 10, 12 examinations will be announced soon, and the decision will be taken in a day or two."

Referring to the impact of COVID-19, Pokhriyal announced his ministry had asked Central and state education boards to reduce the syllabus for the coming academic session.
