COVID-19: 15 areas in Gujarat put under cluster quarantine

In a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 disease, at least 15 areas in four cities of Gujarat have been put under cluster quarantine.

Jayanti Ravi, principal secretary, health and family welfare, said in Gandhinagar on Monday that the areas have been quarantined as part of cluster containment plan, after it emerged that, of the 39 positive cases in the last two days, 31 have been reported from these particular areas.

Gujarat has so far reported 146 COVID-19 positive cases and 12 deaths.

Earlier, Jayanti had said that there has been a spurt in the number of cases after the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin, and the cases were emerging from a particular community. She even urged the leaders of the minority community to appeal to its members to adhere to the lockdown.

Giving the break-up of the areas under cluster quarantine, she said that three areas are in Surat, two in Vadodara, one in Bhavnagar and the rest in Ahmedabad.

The officer said that COVID-19 testing has been intensified in these areas and even if the reports of persons come negative, tests will be repeated after few days as per the protocol.
