Even as sportspersons, celebrities and industrialists are doing their bit in the fight against coronavirus by motivating people to stay indoors and by making significant monetary contributions, another person made a contribution from whatever little savings she has.

Heeraben Modi, mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, contributed  Rs 25,000 to PM-CARES fund.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraba donates Rs 25,000 from her personal savings to #PMCARES Fund," a tweet by news agency ANI read.

In the wake of the spread of coronavirus, PM Modi had set up the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES), with the intention of pooling resources to fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Many on Twitter praised her gracious gesture. Co-founder of website Postcard News Mahesh Vikram Hegde wrote on Twitter: "This is very special because every penny she donated is from her personal savings. Remember that she is 95 years old. When she can do it, why can't we?"

"Respect," wrote another user, sharing the news.

"PM’s mother Heeraben Modi Ji has donated Rs 25,000 from her personal savings to PM-Cares fund. We all know that charity begins at home & the 95-year-old mother of Modi ji is showing the way...Folded handsFolded hands ," wrote another user.
