COVID-19: Number of positive cases climbs to 11 in J&K

The government has imposed a strict lockdown

The number of people tested positive for coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir touched 11 while 5,124 travellers and people who came into contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance according to the daily media bulletin on COVID-19.

The bulletin said 3,061 persons have been kept under home quarantine and 80 others have been quarantined in hospitals. As many as 1,477 persons are under home surveillance while 506 persons have completed the 28-day surveillance period.

According to the media bulletin, out of 326 samples, 294 have tested negative while the results of 21 others are awaited. The government advisory urged people to strictly follow the 21- day lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to contain COVID-19 pandemic.

“People are therefore appealed to stay in their homes and take the lockdown imposed by government with utmost sincerity as carelessness of a few can throw us into grave jeopardy, keeping in view the global experiences of countries which have been successful in containing the spread of COVID-19 through implementation of social distancing measures unlike some other countries where thousands of people have died,” read the advisory. On the implementation of social distancing measures, the advisory said it is the key to stop and prevent the spread of coronavirus from those who are infected to those who are not infected.

The government has forced a strict lockdown and people are cooperating with the same.

The administration has mobilised health care officials, police and government officials on war footing.

The union territory has also sealed its borders with Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Punjab and put up screening facilities at all entry points to identify the affected people.
