Rajinikanth’s meeting with the district functionaries of Rajini Makkal Mandram was convened at a time when there is a growing expectation over his active political entry. The district secretaries were asked to assemble at his Raghavendra marriage hall at Kodambakkam in Chennai and the meeting went on for around two hours. According to sources in RMM, Rajinikanth discussed about stepping into active politics, converting his Mandram aka fan clubs to political party units and launching his party.
Earlier expectations were high among the district secretaries and Mandram functionaries that Rajinikanth will discuss in detail about the party's, designing the party flag and also the party symbol. “We have been instructed not to reveal anything to the media. Time will come and Thalaivar himself will tell you what we discussed,” one of the district secretaries told THE WEEK.
Rajinikanth, who announced his political plunge on December 31, 2017 is yet to launch his party. The superstar who is politically ambitious to fill the leadership vacuum created by the death of Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa, has said that he will contest the assembly general elections and launch his party ahead of the elections.
Rajinikanth’s “personally disappointed” statement has created a flutter among his fans and has also raised the questions of what is disturbing Rajinikanth or what is the one thing that he is disappointed with? “A disappointment occurs only when there are high expectations and the expectation doesn’t get fulfilled. This comment is out of frustration,” said senior journalist and political observer S.P. Lakshmanan. In fact, Rajinikanth expressed his frustration for the first time, when he said people are trying to paint him saffron and he cannot be identified with the ruling BJP. “Expressing a disappointment in an open press conference is definitely not a leadership quality. He is not fit to be a leader if he is not able to hold his frustrations for himself and stand criticism,” Lakshmanan added.
