Amid the mega projects like Jailer 2 and his multi-starrer with Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth's untitled project Thalaivar 173 is quietly building up its own hype. The action-family entertainer directed by Cibi Chakravarthy is being bankrolled by Kamal's own banner Raaj Kamal Films International.
According to latest reports, Thalaivar 173 is set to witness a massive addition to its cast with noted actor-director Basil Joseph set to join the team. Sources say that Basil is expected to play a critical character in the film and is allegedly donning the role of Rajinikanth's son in this family entertainer.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Mohan is in talks to play the female lead in the film. While the genre of Thalaivar 173 hasn't been revealed completely just yet, it is touted to be a family entertainer with a huge action element to it. Chakravarthy shot to fame with Sivakarthikeyan's comedy entertainer Don which was one of the biggest hits of 2022.

Thalaivar 173 was initially slated to be directed by Sundar C and an official announcement was also made but the veteran director pulled out citing creative differences with the production house. It was a development that even took Kamal and Rajinikanth by surprise, given that Sundar C had worked with both the senior superstars on multiple occasions.
Thereafter, Chakravarthy was roped in and this was another surprising development, given that there was no hint of him being associated with such a mega project. Rajinikanth's next release will be Jailer 2 which is expected to release by June followed by Thalaivar 173 which is slated to Pongal 2027. The much-awaited multi-starrer with Kamal is expected to be a 2028 release.
