Bharatiya Janata Party's motormouth legislator Surendra Singh raised a few eyebrows on Saturday after he described the ongoing protest at Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi as a global conspiracy by Muslim countries to “divide India”.

Hundreds of people, mainly women, have been protesting at Shaheen Bagh against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizen (NRC) for more than two months.

Singh, however, said the protest is a conspiracy sponsored by Muslim countries at the global level.

He also launched a scathing attack on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaddudin Owaisi, describing him as an "enemy of the country".

"The internal feelings of Owaisi are against India. In reality, Owaisi is the enemy of the country. Though he resides here, his feelings and beliefs are pro-Pakistan," said Singh.

"If his DNA test is conducted, it will be proved that like Jinnah, he wants to make India a Muslim country," said Singh.

Meanwhile, another BJP leader and Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi termed the Shaheen Bagh protest an example of the struggle between rights and duties of the people.

"They (protesters) understand their rights but not their duties. I do not think one can achieve their rights by abducting (blocking) a road," Naqvi said.

"We will always be caught up in confusion if we do not understand our rights and duties," he said.
