Female student with coronavirus stable, says Kerala govt

Giving details of the first case of coronavirus detected in Kerala, the state health authorities on Thursday afternoon informed the patient was stable.

Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja told a press conference that the government had sent samples of 20 people for testing for confirmation of coronavirus.

Shailaja said the confirmed the case was a girl student who had been isolated along with four others from Wuhan before the virus was confirmed. The patient is now in an isolation ward of the Thrissur general hospital.

Shailaja said the condition of the student was stable and her "symptoms were not severe". Shailaja said the Kerala government was vigilant and said all those returning from China have to report to authorities or go to their nearest hospitals. The government has instructed that those returning from China being quarantined at home.

Shailaja requested people who came from China to avoid going to public places.

A total of 806 people are under observation in Kerala for coronavirus symptoms. Of these, 10 are in isolation wards in hospitals and the rest in home quarantine.
