All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, challenging him to identify the man, who shot at anti-CAA protesters near Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, “by his clothes”.
Owaisi was referring to PM Modi's earlier controversial remark, where he said that those who are protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act “can easily be identified by their clothes”.
A student from Jamia was injured when the man, who was, reportedly, identified as 'Rambhakt Gopal', opened fire at the group of protesters and shouted "Yeh lo azadi", eye-witnesses said. He was overpowered by protesters, and was detained, police said.

Owaisi also lambasted Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who the Election Commission barred from campaigning in the Delhi Assembly polls for three days, for leading chants of ‘shoot the traitors’ targeting anti-CAA protesters, at a poll rally in north Delhi’s Rithala.
“Thanks to @ianuragthakur & all the 9 PM nationalists who have created so much hatred in this country that a terrorist shoots a student while cops watch
Hi @PMOIndia identify him by his clothes,” he wrote on Twitter.

Owaisi also criticised the Delhi Police for their inaction and for being insensitive towards the Jamia student injured in the shooting.
"@DelhiPolice What happened to the bravado that you showed in #Jamia last month?
If there's a prize for being helpless bystanders, you'd win it every time.
Can you explain why a gunshot victim had to climb over a barricade? Do your service rules stop you from being humane," the Hyderabad MP tweeted.
Shadab Farooq, the mass communication student, was injured in his left hand and was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
