In a major embarrassment for the Vijay Rupani-led BJP government in Gujarat, a party MLA from Savli assembly constituency in Vadodara, Ketan Inamdar, announced his resignation on Wednesday claiming that developmental works are ignored due to lack of coordination between the administration and elected representatives.

This is the first time that a BJP MLA resigns citing such a reason in Gujarat.

Inamdar had won as an independent candidate in 2017 assembly elections and later joined the BJP.

Inamdar clarified that he has not resigned from the party and added that he has not reached out to the opposition Congress.

In a letter to Rajendra Trivedi, the state assembly speaker, Inamdar has specified that ministers and senior bureaucrats do not pay attention to developmental works due to the absence of coordination between them.

Stating that dignity of the post that he holds is not maintained, Inamdar has gone on to mention that he has been following the discipline of the party.

Inamdar said works are not being done despite making several representations. He also claimed that other MLAs are also being ignored.

The MLA said he has no option but to tender resignation in the interest of people.

Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia said Inamdar’s resignation as MLA shows that more MLAs are unhappy with the party. He claimed that the Congress has no plans to break the BJP.

Meanwhile, there are rumours that Rupani and state party president Jitu Vaghani are likely to meet the disgruntled leader personally.
