CPI leader and former Jawaharlal Nehru University students body president Kanhaiya Kumar, who recently came out with another azadi slogan against the Citizenship Amendment Bill and the protests across the nation, has now asked the people not to be silent against the Act.
In Facebook post, Kumar said the primary duty of a citizen today is to protect the Constitution from the government.
“The primary duty of an Indian Citizen today is to protect the Indian Constitution from the Indian Government.
Don't be Silent, Don't be Violent,” he wrote.
On Wednesday, Kumar, who addressed the protesters outside Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, said the protest against the Citizenship Act will be remembered as the one that saved the Constitution.
Kumar said people should be more worried about the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which he said was much more dangerous than the citizenship law, reported PTI. "If the NRC is implemented pan-India, we all will have to stand in long queues like the demonetisation days," he said.
Kumar underlined that the amended citizenship law and the NRC should be protested tooth and nail, but it should not veer off the path of peace.
"We must ensure we remain in our senses while trying to maintain the same level of energy," he said. "Remember, we hold pen and not AK-47," Kumar added.
