An Indian citizen was among the 12 people killed in a major wave of Russian missile and drone attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday.
The attacks targeted Kyiv and other parts of the country, including Odesa Oblast and Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian authorities said that several others were also injured in the strike, and civilian infrastructure and residential areas were damaged.
“Overall, 12 people were killed, among them an Indian citizen, and dozens more were injured in the attack. My condolences to everyone who has lost family and loved ones," Zelenskyy mentioned in a post on X.
The attack marked the sixth consecutive day of russian strikes on Kyiv.
In Boryspil, a five-story residential building was damaged, and 50 people had to be evacuated. Four were killed, and 13 were injured.
Around seven people were killed in a strike on a railway depot in Kyiv, and another was killed in Holosiivskyi district after a non-residential building was hit by a strike and caught on fire.
Three people were killed, and 12 were wounded in wider Kyiv. In Odesa, the strikes left residents without power.
The strike also damaged a border crossing with Romania and export infrastructure.
Ukraine’s air force said that it destroyed 199 aerial targets, including five ballistic missiles and 187 drones.
The attacks were located at 28 locations, and debris was intercepted at another 10 sites.
Zelenskyy said that the attacks showed a need for stronger air defences, saying, “Russia always plans its strikes specifically to cause as much destruction to people’s lives as possible, and it succeeds only when air defence capabilities are insufficient. I am grateful to everyone helping Ukraine receive anti-ballistic capabilities through PURL and bilateral supplies, and it is very important that these deliveries increase this fall. The number of victims of Russian terror directly hinges on every new package of assistance.”
