Sanitary napkins have been made mandatory in factories and industries in Assam, the state cabinet ruled Tuesday. The decision was taken by Assam's CM Sarbananda Sonowal.

Apart from this, the Assam cabinet approved the Assam Bamboo and Cane Policy that aims to utilize the bamboo and cane resources in the state through scientific management.

Assam Industry Minister Chandramohan Patowary said, "The Assam cabinet has passed the Assam Bamboo and Cane Policy. Under the policy, the state government will provide Rs 2.50 per bamboo sapling to the farmers as incentives."

"We are now planning to cultivate bamboo plantation in 1000 hectare land in the state. We are also discussing with the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) because the NRL is going to establish a new plant. If NRL will come forward then bamboo saplings target will be increased to 10 lakh. Our bamboo farmers will be benefited from this policy," Patowary said.

Abhishek Boney Singha, a youngster in Assam has already made a change concerning women's sanitation issues by starting a pad bank, an organisation who reaches out to young girls and women to create awareness about sanitary napkins and provide them with pads and other hygiene-related products that will last them for three months.

Singha's initiative, ‘The White Revolution: A Sanitary Pad Bank for the Needy Ones' started in 2018. It reaches out to girls and women in the tea garden and other remote areas who may otherwise find it difficult to gain access to sanitary napkins or might not be able to buy pads due to their financial situation.
