Manohar Lal Khattar is all set to take charge as the chief minister of Haryana for a second straight term on Sunday while Jannayak Janta Party leader Dushyant Chautala will take oath as his deputy.
Khattar, Chautala and other ministers will be sworn in at 2.15 pm at the Haryana Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party which fell short of a majority in Haryana received support from Chautala's JJP and seven other independents after Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya invited them to form the government. A total of 57 MLAs―40 of the BJP, 10 of the JJP and seven independents―have come together for the same.
“The governor accepted it and invited us to form the government on Sunday,” Khattar had said. He added that the names of the ministers who will also take oath will be made known on Sunday.
Dushyant Chautala's father, Ajay Chautala, who was granted a two-week leave from Tihar Jail where he is serving sentence in a teacher recruitment scam, is also likely to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Haryana went to polls on October 21 to elect leaders to its 90-member assembly. On counting day, it remained a tight contest between the BJP and Congress, with the JJP bagging 10 seats and independents seven. A hung house led to the JJP and the independents changing the course of the political developments in the state before they decided to lend their support to the BJP.
