Situation in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day

Jammu Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik said restrictions in Jammu Kashmir will be eased out after August 15. In the meantime, Election Commission held internal discussions on the delimitation of constituencies ahead of elections to the new Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The population of Jammu and Kashmir according to him, would be divided into 114 seats.

Flood developments in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra

The death toll in flood-affected states mounted to 225 on Tuesday, with 91 perishing since August 8 in Kerala where more rain has been forecast, even as the weather in deluge-hit Karnataka and Maharashtra improved, allowing authorities to speed up rescue and relief operations.

Besides Kerala, 54 have died in Karnataka, 49 in Maharashtra and 31 in Gujarat in floods and related incidents. Two rain-related deaths were also reported from Uttar Pradesh where several parts saw heavy overnight showers.

Delhi HC to hear anticipatory bail plea of the nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath

The Delhi High Court will hear the the anticipatory bail plea of Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath today, in connection with a money laundering case related to the AgustaWestland chopper scam. Puri, through advocate Vijay Aggarwal, approached the high court challenging a trial court's order denying him anticipatory bail.

Puri, a businessman, is an accused in a money laundering case related to the now scrapped Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland chopper deal.

Imran Khan to address PoK assembly

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday called Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as part of his outreach to the world leaders to apprise them about the situation in Kashmir, his office said. PM Imran Khan also said, in order to express solidarity with people of J&K, he will will address the assembly of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
