Renowned yoga guru Jaggi Vasudev (popularly known as Sadhguru) will be participating in the International Day of Yoga on June 21 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. And Sadhguru will be leading a yoga session at a unique venue—a floating dock of the Indian Navy.

Providing details about the event, the Indian Navy said yoga sessions would be held in “various clusters on June 20 and 21 at Birchgunj, Minnie Bay and INS Utkrosh.” For the yoga day celebrations, the Andaman and Nicobar Command is tying up with the Isha Foundation of Sadhguru.

Sadhguru will be leading the yoga session on board the Indian Navy's FDN-2 floating dock. Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, head of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, as well as up to 800 personnel of the Army, Navy and Air Force are expected to participate in the event.

Sadhguru has been a keen participant at events of the International Day of Yoga, which was first observed on June 21, 2015. In 2018, Sadhguru led a yoga session for jawans on the Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world.

Lauding the role of the Andaman and Nicobar Command before his visit, Sadhguru said, “Andaman and Nicobar Islands are one of nation’s most desolate and vulnerable terrains. The effort of the military’s tri-service command to guard the nation’s sovereignty is truly invaluable. It is paramount to equip these soldiers with yogic tools for transformation.”

The Indian Navy, too, has enthusiastically held sessions on International Day of Yoga, including on its ships. In 2018, International Day of Yoga was observed by personnel on board the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. Yoga day sessions have also been held on the deck of the aircraft carrier INS Viraat, which was decommissioned from the Indian Navy in 2017.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command is the only 'tri-service' command of the Indian armed forces. The Andaman and Nicobar Command, constituted in 2001, comprises personnel and resources from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

A floating dock has a wide hull meant to embark other ships for urgent repair work. FDN-2 was designed and built at L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli. This floating dock was inducted into the Indian Navy in 2018 and is based in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. “It has the capability to lift ships up to 8,000 tonnes including frigates and destroyers of the Indian Navy,” an Indian Navy press release said.
