Telangana Board of Intermediate suspended a teacher and imposed fine on another for giving a student '0' instead of '99' marks on Sunday.

After the submission of a report by a three-member committee, the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) took action against the teachers who were found guilty of dereliction of duty.

The teacher, Uma Devi, was suspended and a fine of Rs 5,000 has been imposed on her after she evaluated the Telugu paper of a class 12 student. Instead of giving 99 marks, Uma Devi gave the student '0' marks. Reports said that the teacher has been sacked by the management.

BIE also suspended another teacher of a tribal welfare school, who had served as scrutiniser but failed to notice the error.

The Telangana Board of Intermediate is in the middle of a row over bungling of the results declaration for class 11 and 12 intermediate examinations. The Board had declared the results on April 18, and according to reports, over three lakh students were found to have failed their examinations.

Over 20 students across the state committed suicide post the inter result declaration, prompting protesting students and parents to demand action against the Board and IT company Globarena Technologies, which was allegedly responsible for the bungling.

Following the incident, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had instructed the Telangana State Board of Secondary Education (TSBSE) to carry out free re-verification and re-counting for students who have failed the exams.
