Four security personnel, including two CRPF jawans and two police officers, and a civilian lost their lives during an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening.
Security forces had earlier launched a cordon and search operation in Babagund area of Pulwama on information about the presence of militants. An encounter broke out after the militants opened fire at the forces.
The two police personnel who lost their lives were identified as SgCt Naseer Ahmad Kholi and SgCt Ghulam Mustafa Barah. The two slain CRPF personnel were identified as Inspector Pintu and Ct Vinod.
Unconfirmed reports said that two militants were also killed in the encounter and that the operation is still underway.
